David King

David King

Dr. David King has taught courses in personality, health psychology, and the psychology of death and dying at University of British Columbia's (UBC) Department of Psychology in Canada

His current study focuses on how stress manifests itself in social contexts of various sizes and complexity, ranging from dyads and families to larger social and cultural contexts (e.g., disease outbreaks, collective traumas). Socioeconomic aspects in health, the influence of stigma and prejudice on well-being, and the function of meaning in trauma are among her other academic interests. He is also the co-author of two undergraduate textbooks, in addition to numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals.

David is dedicated to advancing critical thought and dialogue on the intricacies of human nature, whether through teaching, writing, or research.

Health Psychology: Biopsychosocial Interactions First Canadian Edition (PDF) helps college students to understand the interplay of psychological, biological, and social factors in people’s health. It has a modular structure, which allows instructors to choose to cover all of the systems at once or distribute them to other chapters. The psychological research cited in the text supports a variety of physiological, behavioural, cognitive, and social/personality viewpoints. The First Canadian Edition includes health care systems in the context of Canada as well as discussions of health issues affecting marginalized groups, substance use, health services, stress, fetal alcohol syndrome, aboriginal issues, and material on social inequalities in the health services section. The textbook also includes many international examples and cross-cultural references to broaden the psychologist’s view of health issues around the globed and to highlight what works in the field, and what doesn’t.
