Law and Society 12E

The latest edition of the groundbreaking textbook, Law and Society, immerses readers in the prevailing theoretical frameworks and sociological approaches that elucidate the complex relationship between law and society. In this twelfth edition, Professor Vago’s original insights remain intact, while Steven E. Barkan enhances the text’s accessibility for contemporary audiences through chapter outlines, summaries, clear learning objectives, key terms, and additional readings.

This foundational work has been thoroughly updated to reflect current events and emerging research, showcasing the reciprocal influence of legal forces and societal dynamics. Notable updates include: current trial and conviction statistics from federal district courts, fresh data on the sexual harassment of attorneys, improved representation metrics for women and people of color among law school faculty, and new discussions surrounding legal challenges stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic. The twelfth edition of Law and Society serves as an essential resource for undergraduate courses in Law and Society, Sociology of Law, and Introduction to Law, offered by Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Political Science departments.
