Reviews

This is the second edition of a companion handbook to Principles and Practice of Gynecologic Oncology, 6th edition, Barakat et al., with a focus on key points, summary information and treatment algorithms.

This is an excellent quick resource and introduction to gynecologic oncology. The summary and key points are extremely helpful and the references are high yield. The tables that summarize landmark studies are extremely helpful and the use of figures to show survival curves is a main feature. The handbook covers key topics from the parent textbook, organized by chapters covering each of the major cancer sites: cervix, vulva, uterus, vagina, ovary, and fallopian tube. Individual chapters are devoted to chemotherapy, radiation, preinvasive lesions, and gestational trophoblastic neoplasms. The purpose is to give an introduction to the basics of oncology practice and the latest advances in the field of gynecologic oncology. The handbook stresses introductory and summary information on major cancer sites. The accompanying website is a great asset . The audience is students, nurses, residents, and anyone new to gynecologic oncology who needs to rapidly acquire basic familiarity with the field. The title meets the requirements of its intended audience. The author and coauthors are leaders in the field and are highly regarded nationally and internationally.
